Turbo Stop with "Lift Off System" and Air Catcher Pockets

The innovation of the year comes from Firebird - no bushwa.

The sixty-four-dollar question first: how much is your life worth?

Little- or even a little bit less?
You may come to this conclusion while watching the competition between new manufacturers in building the cheapest reserves in the world. Really old rescue systems are copied again and again and offered as the "cheapest" and/or "best" new development. But what you really get is mostly technology of the last century.

But the reserve is the most important part of the paragliding equipment.
If your glider sinks a little bit less it costs  you a little bit of altitude, if your harness isn't absolutely great it costs you a little bit of comfort - but  a suboptimal resue system can cost your life or ruin your health for ever. For the last 20 years our  development department masterminded nearly all innovations concerning reserves and will do so in the future. The rescue systems of our design engineers have been produced more than 100,000 times and saved the lives of  hundreds of pilots.

Milestone of Innovation 2008
2008 is again a significant step in building rescues."Turbo Stop" means pure innovation. Most reserves of the elder generation look face to face with our "Turbo Stop" like an old Volkswagen compared to a modern hybrid car.

So what's the point?

  • Shorter opening time
  • Shorter opening way
  • Less weight - same rate of decent
  • Lift Off System and reduction of braking distance for more than 5 m

Just 20 years ago a car needed 45 m braking distance when driving 100 km/h. Today a lot of cars don't even need 40 m at the same speed. An improvment of more than 5 meters. So why don't try the same with a reserve? The reserve is open more than 5 meters before and can brake with full action where others are just beginning to brake.

The real innovation of the Firebird "Turbo Stop" is the "Lift-Off-Systemand Air Catcher Pockets.

"Lift-Off“ means that the canopy is built aero-elastic with Dyneema-lines (no distension) so that it shortens the braking time and increases the breaking action radically.  In case of an emergency opening the pilot doesn't need to swing back and forth unter the reserve but the new Firbird Reserve climbs fast and autonomous over the pilot. That's what we call "Lift-Off-System". This system lifts the pilot up after opening and gives him precious time before landing.
This was documented first during the approval tests for EN/LTF at the Academy.

Air Catcher Pockets

makes your flights even more secure.

Throwing your rescue in emergency situations at quite slow speed shows that the rescue basis opens with some delay and you loose precious time before the rescue carries you.

The new developed Turbo Stop reduces the opening time up to 50 %. This is possible because of the new Firebird Air Catcher Pockets.

These are 2 opposed sewed Air Pockets with integrated spreading profile. This spreading profile opens the Air Catcher Pockets at once after the activating of the rescue and they pull the rescue basis open. So the rescue can fill with air much faster and the whole opening time is shortened.

The combination of fast openings in all speed ranges, Lift-Off-System, small packing volume and less weight sets a new  security standard in rescues.

As most emergency openings happen near ground level, the "Turbo Stop" will improve the chances for saving their lives and health for many pilots. 5 m less braking distance means beeing 5 m earlier under the rescue. It's the same as a car. Who wants a  braking distance of the fifties today?
Another specification Firebird has surpassed eith the "Turbo Stop": the reduction of the sinking velocity and the resce weight.

With the specific buff load we reach sinking velocities under 5 m/sec - with canopy weight starting at 1.35 kg. Those values haven't been possible even theoretically some years ago. They are the consequence of a new high performant fabric with 30 g/m²  against  41g/m² of a usual F111 fabric. And the packing volume shrinks to nearly the half of most other rescues.

Firebird „Turbo-Stop“ if you love your life!
Because of our longtime probed new fabrics, that we use for our Turbo Stop and because of state of the art manufacturing we managed to build the lightest and most modern resue on the market. Criteria like opening security, best sinking velocity and high librating stability together with easy packing are self evident for us. Like all of our reserves the Turbo Stop stands for highest security and quality. the Turbo Stop was authorized by the new European Standard EN12491.

No testing expenses were too high to develop the best rescue for you.
